Tech writing vs LLM

LLMs, LLMs everywhere

Yes they are, and it can be a bit depressing and demotivating to write (or even read in some cases), especially on Tech topics. Even a kitchen wife or kitchen husband can ask friendly AI bot to describe some rocket science things using simple language. Why bother?

Few points to consider:

  • Writing: yes LLM can write a good text or summarize a book for you, or produce an entire book out of single prompt (not without hallucinations, though). But why not acquire some writing skills, they are useful in day-to-day life. From negotiating a price on the market to having a job interview. Clarity of written or spoken word is always a good bonus for a technical person, especially.
  • Competition: with all big and small sites around one gets a lot of competition. But one learn a lot on the subject while writing. Once you try to teach someone (practically writing is teaching in many cases) a concept, you have to know it well enough. So writing pushes you to learn. Instead of seeing it as lost battle against whole internet of better content, concentrate on just another tool in your learning arsenal.
  • Publicity: writing something for everyone to see can be intimidating. But everything new is. Publicity brings new opportunities.
  • Originality: how to bring something new and original? Well, who said you are not original already. Trivial thing for one - revelation for another. It’s better to be yourself and be honest, than try to mimic someone else. The original is always better and a knockoff ;)
